TBM owners meet on a German island for the TBMOPA’s annual European convention
Tarbes, June 12, 2015 – Europe’s chapter of the TBM Owners and Pilots Association (TBMOPA) – the user organization for Daher’s family of very fast turboprop aircraft – held its annual convention this month on the island of Sylt, Germany, bringing together 60 participants and 22 TBMs.
The gathering included a full day of technical presentations from eight guest speakers, including Frank McKee, president of the U.S. TBMOPA chapter; ferry pilot Margrit Waltz, who shared some of her experiences while flying TBMs throughout the world; and Dr. Ian Fries, a TBM pilot and aviation medical expert that reviewed the risks of hypoxia.
“Our 2015 event attracted an increased participation, with TBM pilots coming from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, the United Kingdom – and as far away as Canada and Singapore for three days of meetings and social events,” said David Fabry, the President of TBMOPA Europe. “We had excellent discussions about operational safety with teams from TBM and engine supplier Pratt & Whitney Canada.”
Fabry expressed his satisfaction about new members joining the group, and noted that three TBM 900s – the latest TBM production version – were included in the aircraft present at this year’s event.
Nicolas Chabbert, Senior Vice President of the Daher’s Airplane Business Unit, explained that the 2015 TBMOPA European convention highlighted the owner association’s excellent working relationship with Daher as the TBM aircraft manufacturer: “Knowing and understanding our customers better is key to our strategy, and the quality of the dialogue with the owners associations is essential to us.”
He added that Daher’s customer support is being given high marks by the TBM community, recognizing the company’s continuous efforts. “The TBMOPA European convention’s growing interest demonstrates that our customers on both sides of the Atlantic are seeking opportunities to meet and talk about their common passion – flying the TBM,” Chabbert concluded.

About the TBM 900 – www.tbm.aero
The TBM 900 is the latest member in Daher’s TBM family of very fast single-engine turboprop aircraft. It offers superior performance – a maximum cruise speed of 330 kts. – and high efficiency with a 1,730 naut. mi. maximum range and a fuel consumption at economy cruise of 37 U.S. gal per hour. This results from aerodynamic improvements, along with other aircraft enhancements. The maximum range and useful load, as well as the ability to land at small airports, are some of its customers’ favorite features.
As of June 1, 2015, deliveries of the TBM 900 brought to 730 units the total number of TBM-series aircraft received by customers, with this global fleet accumulating more than 1.2 million flight hours.
